Keyswitching uses MIDI to trigger different articulations in a virtual instrument without needing to create a seperate track for each articulation. Keyswitching is a workflow preference and some composers prefer having one instrument track that switches between the different articulations they are using in a piece of music. The keys that are used to switch articulations for an instrument are usually notes out of the instruments range. These notes can be set and customised to a composers preference within a virtual instrument.
