What Does ‘DFD’ Stand For?

Estimated reading: 1 minute

DFD stands for Direct From Disk and is a technique for playing back samples without loading them entirely into RAM.

When an instrument is using DFD streaming, Kontakt will load a small portion of each sample into RAM while the rest is read from the computer’s hard disk when playing the instrument.

Kontakt allows you to adjust the buffer size on an individual instrument or globally so that you are able to optimise for drives with fast data storage.
