What are Patches?

In the world of virtual instruments, patches are a configuration of settings that contain an instrument and it’s effects. Applying these settings, modifies the sound of the track you applied them to within your DAW.

A virtual instrument that’s loaded up within a DAW is classed as a patch.

The term patch can also be used interchangeably with preset in this context.

A performance patch, is a patch designed to perform multiple articulations depending on how you play and sound great out of the box. This can be a useful tool for sketching ideas quickly or performing live.
